Proudly positioned above the long grasses of Goathland Common, The Beacon is perfectly placed to enjoy and explore the popular North Yorkshire Moors. Recently restored to a luxuriously high standard, this former guest house provides an idyllic country retreat for up to 14 guests.

Once an occasional star of the hit 90’s tv-show ‘Heartbeat’, this imposing arts and crafts style house now offers a truly memorable experience to all who stay. Whether you are drawn to the beautifully spacious interiors, the excitement of the family games room, or simply sneaking away to enjoy the bubbling hot-tub – this is a home that truly has something for everyone.

The ground floor offers plentiful living space, with a lounge full of sumptuous sofas, an imposing formal dining room and fully equipped kitchen. Enjoy the green-hilled views from the breakfast room or escape to the garden room for a more intimate space to relax. If you’re up for a tournament our games room offers an interchangeable pool/air hockey table and smart TV for afternoon fun. Or maybe you prefer a country walk, dumping your muddy boots and washing puppy paws in our convenient utility room once you return. There is also a ground floor, en-suite double bedroom for those preferring to stay on one level.

Upstairs you will find 5 more beautiful en-suite bedrooms, each one with its own character and charm. Think designer decor, thoughtful lighting, plush furnishings and mattresses you want to melt into after a day exploring the moors. The family bathroom offers a fabulous space for a long soak with a good book alongside a convenient walk-in shower. With two singles, one bunk bed, one double, two kings and a super king to choose from, the biggest decision you will need to make is who gets to stay in the four-poster bed!

Outside you will find a wonderful space to play and entertain. Benefitting from extensive landscaping, the garden boasts a large patio space perfect for alfresco dining, a lawn for the little ones to let off some steam or maybe they would prefer to explore the children’s play area instead. Wander down the path through the newly planted wildflower lawns to find our 6-seater hot tub nestled amongst the conifers, and watch the garden lights start to sparkle as the night sets in. And don’t forget the marshmallows for toasting over the rustic fire pit for a yummy evening under the stars.

The village itself, although small, benefits from fantastic enjoyable amenities. If good food is your thing, family-run restaurant The Homestead Kitchen is located just a skip across the Common and offers the perfect fine dining experience. Think seasonally inspired, a la carte menus using home-grown and locally sourced produce. Or, why not check out the bustling vibe of The Mallyan Spout Hotel bar and restaurant instead? For lighter lunches we recommend grabbing a tasty bite to eat at The Coach House Cafe.

If exploring is your thing, the majestic Mallyan Spout Waterfall is a short but steep walk away with many other waterfalls to explore nearby. And who can resist a trip through the village, grabbing a traditional ice cream en-route to visiting Goathland Railway Station – a traditional steam railway that just so happened to feature as Hogsmeade station in the infamous Harry Potter films!

With many tea rooms and cafes on offer, local gift shops and a children’s play park, not to mention the many walking trails through the local countryside you will always find something to do, visit or explore right from your doorstep. And if you do want to venture further afield, the popular coastal town of Whitby is just a 15 minute drive, with the gorgeous Robin Hood’s Bay a little further away.
